Description

Description:

The Outstanding Young Investigator Award is presented to an individual who has made significant contributions to the field of toxicology in the early stage of their career. Peer and self-nominations are both welcomed.

The awardee will receive an engraved plaque and a monetary award. The monetary award intends that it be used for education and/or research-related expenses, including travel to scientific conferences.

Requirements for applications

The recipient must have 15 years or less of experience since obtaining his/her highest degree. Exceptions to the 15-year limitation can be made if careers are interrupted due to health reasons, family responsibilities, or related situations. The exception should be briefly acknowledged in the nomination letter – sufficient details are not expected to maintain privacy.

Applicant SOT Membership Requirements:

  • This award requires the applicant to both be an active member of the Society of Toxicology (Associate or Full Member) and in the Women in Toxicology Special Interest Group.

Required application components:

  1. Applications should include key contributions to the field, and career milestones/accolades. These criteria, with others listed below, are used in the award selection process.
  2. Summary of the applicant's scientific contributions, including originality and impact of their work on advancing the field of toxicology.
  3. At least two, but no more than three, letters of recommendation describing the nominee's significant contributions to toxicology. Listing items on the CV is not sufficient without analysis and discussion of the important contributions and how the nominee meets the award criteria.
  4. Curriculum vitae of the applicant – 10 pages maximum.
  5. Headshot/photograph image of sufficient quality for poster and presentation materials. (Note: This requirement does not factor into selection of the awardee; it is to have the information on hand to develop WIT announcements and Annual Meeting materials.)
