Purpose:

To provide recognition of an elected government official (local, state, national, international) who demonstrates support for science related to protecting or advancing the health and safety of people, animals, and/or the environment.

Criteria for award:

An elected official who meets one or more of the following:

• has recognized and supports scientific research that increases knowledge and advances protection of people, animals, and/or environmental health
• has pursued public policy or decision-making relating to health and safety

Items needed in the application:

1. A nomination letter from an SOT member describing how the nominee has supported scientific research or policy addressing the protection of human, animal, and/or environmental health.
