Description and Eligibility: This award is selected on the basis of scientific merit and outstanding demonstration of leadership and service to the toxicology and sustainable chemistry community. Applicants must be early career scientists actively engaged in the field of toxicology and sustainable chemistry or related areas and be within 10 years after completion of their PhD, 12 years of completion of their Master’s, or 14 years of completion of their Bachelor’s at the application deadline for this award (exceptions can be made if careers are interrupted to health reasons, family responsibilities, or related situations; the exception should be briefly acknowledged in an addendum but to maintain privacy, details are not expected). Applicants must be members of the Sustainable Chemicals through Contemporary Toxicology (SCCT) Specialty Section of SOT. Peer and self-nominations are both welcomed.
Metrics: Applications are evaluated on the basis of 1) scientific merit and 2) commitment to mentorship and service in the toxicology and sustainable chemistry community. Demonstrated innovation in sustainable chemistry is a plus but not required.
Application Materials:
- A 1-2 page personal statement that details the applicant’s demonstrated key contributions to the field, career milestones or accolades, and mentorship and service in the toxicology and sustainable chemistry community (e.g., leadership positions in local or global scientific organizations, service to or participation in scientific organizations or events, formal or informal experience mentoring more junior scientists, etc.).
- Two letters of recommendation describing the applicant’s fulfillment of the aforementioned Metrics. Each letter may focus on different Metrics (e.g., one letter describing the applicant’s scientific achievements and another describing their involvement in mentorship and service).
- CV of the applicant (10 pages maximum) that includes specific descriptions of the applicant’s experience and qualifications, especially as they relate to the aforementioned Metrics. Additional information to give context (e.g., brief details regarding a specific innovation in a chemical manufacturing process) are helpful and may be included.
- Headshot/photograph image of sufficient quality for poster and presentation materials. (Note: This requirement does not factor into selection of the awardee; it is to have the materials on hand to develop SCCT announcements and Annual Meeting materials.)
Award: One awardee will be selected and will receive an engraved plaque, an invitation to the SCCT annual luncheon, and recognition in SCCT communications.
