Description:
The purpose of the Pfizer Graduate Fellowship Award is to provide a stipend for a student toward the end of their graduate training to support their outstanding research related to science and innovation in translational toxicology research. Translational toxicology is defined as an area of toxicology that bridges basic toxicological research with its application to drug development and human health. Thus, the field of translational toxicology integrates cutting-edge methodologies from across scientific disciplines to predict and mitigate the toxic effects of drugs in humans.
The award recipient will receive a stipend of $36,000 administered by the awardee’s institution and academic department. In addition, the award recipient will receive $9,000 for research supplies and other justifiable costs of the award recipient’s research as described in the award application and $2,500 for research-related travel of award recipient.
The recipient will be selected after virtual interviews are conducted by the SOT Awards Committee with the finalists in November.
Criteria for award:
- Enrolled in a PhD/doctoral program and conducts research related to science and innovation in translational toxicology research.
- Completed at least six semesters or nine quarters in the program.
- Both the applicant and faculty mentor are Society of Toxicology members (or have pending membership at the application deadline).
- Qualifying exams for candidacy are completed at the time of application.
Items needed in the application:

- Specific aims:
- Research goals that the applicant has already accomplished:
- Research planned for the current year:
- Research planned during the tenure of the award:
- Relevance and impact of the applicant’s research on translational toxicology. Applicants are strongly invited to explain how their research will lead to translational innovations that inform drug discovery or drug development.
- Letter of support from the applicant’s research advisor/mentor
Notes on Eligibility
- One Award will be given per year and recipients may only receive this award once.
