About Dr. Eric Andreasen:

Dr. Eric Andreasen strove to conduct exceptionally sound scientific research that would have lasting societal impacts. He was instrumental in establishing zebrafish as a preeminent animal model for developmental toxicology research. He made several other major contributions to developmental toxicology and the fields of toxicogenomics, tissue regeneration, and aryl hydrocarbon receptor biology. He unfailingly offered to support and mentor others, and always made people feel welcomed and part of the research group family.

About the Award:

His commitment to others led to the career development of countless scientists. To honor Dr. Andreasen's life and scientific accomplishments, an endowed SOT travel award was created in his name.  The Andreasen Award recognizes an outstanding graduate student and post-doctoral scholar that best exemplifies the qualities of scientific excellence and leadership exhibited by Dr. Andreasen. The recipient of the Dr. Eric A. Andreasen Graduate Travel Award for Excellence in Research and scholarship will receive support to present their research at the national Society of Toxicology meeting. 

Award Details:

The Andreasen Award will recognize an outstanding graduate student and post-doctoral scholar who best embodies Dr. Andreasen's scientific excellence and leadership.  The recipient will receive a certificate and a $1,200 cash award. 

Eligibility:

  • Have a SOT membership level of a graduate student or postdoctoral member
  • Must be a member of the Pacific Northwest Association of Toxicologists (PANWAT) or the Midwest Regional Chapter (MRC) in good standing (all dues paid)
  • Cannot receive any SOT award (from another specialty section or the society) to attend the same national meeting
  • Be able to attend the PANWAT reception at the annual SOT meeting to receive the award

Selection Criteria:

  • Graduate Student: academic background, scientific merit, the potential for research impact, and evidence of leadership and mentoring activities
  • Postdoctoral Scholar: in addition to the requirement for graduate students, evidence of aspiration to advance science

Application Materials:

  • SOT submitted scientific meeting abstract – must adhere to the SOT requirements
  • Short 1-paragraph biography to be used for the website if selected as a recipient of this award
  • Current CV
  • Statement written by the applicant, describing mentorship, leadership activities, and career goals (1 page max)

Submission:

  • Submit all application materials as PDF files
