Abstracts submitted for presentations will be reviewed by the OVSOT Executive Committee. Acceptance of the abstract for a Platform Presentation, Big Picture Science talk, or poster presentation will be communicated to the individual following completion of all reviews.
Big Picture Science: This student activity is fast-paced, fun, and highly lucrative both as a learning opportunity and monetarily as several cash prizes are awarded, including awards for both Best Undergraduate and Best Graduate Big Picture Science presentation. The twist to this competition is that presentations focus on the “big picture” and are conceptual in nature, rather than showing data. Additional details will be provided to each participant for guidance. Students will be allowed 3 minutes maximum and one Powerpoint slide for their presentation. Cash prizes will be available for top platform and poster presentations. Additionally, the winners of the PhD Student and Postdoctoral Fellow platform competitions will serve as representatives on the OVSOT Executive Committee for one year and will receive a cash award to be applied toward registration and representing OVSOT at the 2027 SOT Annual meeting. In addition, platform winners will be provided with a sponsorship letter for SOT membership upon request. (Please note ***Winners from the previous year's platform presentation will not be eligible to present in the current year's platform presentation series, nor compete for 1st place prize in platform presentations. They will become eligible again in subsequent years. As an example, an individual who won in 2025 is ineligible to present a platform in 2026, but will be eligible to present a platform in 2027***). To be eligible for the PhD or Postdoctoral platform or poster awards, or Masters poster awards, the trainee must be a member of OVSOT (undergraduate students are exempt from membership requirements; verification of membership will be requested before any funds are awarded). Additionally, eligibility for the PhD or Postdoctoral platform awards require submission of an abstract to the 2027 SOT Annual Meeting, and availability to attend the 2027 meeting.
