Goal of the Award:  Awards will be announced in advance of the annual meeting and attendance at the meeting is mandatory upon acceptance of the award. The award is made possible by the Toshio Narahashi Neurotoxicology Fellowship Award Fund of the SOT Endowment. An award stipend of ≥ $250.00 will be provided to selected trainees to cover registration and other associated costs. Please note that the stipend may not be received until the time of the SOT annual meeting or shortly thereafter.

The Application:  The application form contains two components (PART A and PART B).

PART A is completed by the Trainee to be submitted via SOT Apply as a single PDF file with the following components:

1) The application form PART A (see instructions below)

2) The abstract submitted for the SOT annual meeting

3) Proof of abstract submission (a PDF file of the abstract submission confirmation email sent from SOT)

4) Trainee Curriculum Vitae

In the event the travel award deadline occurs before SOT announces acceptance of abstracts, proof of acceptance must also be provided via email to Megan Culbreth (Megan.Culbreth@fda.hhs.gov) as soon as SOT has made a decision. Awards cannot be made without proof of abstract acceptance.

PART B (see below) is completed by the Trainee's Mentor and also submitted via SOT Apply

PART A: To be filled out by the AWARD APPLICANT.

Applicant Information: Trainee full name, institutional affiliation, email, phone contact information and name of mentor. Position: identify whether you are an undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, graduate student, or postdoctoral scholar, and how long you have been in this position. For post-baccalaureates, include degree conferral data; graduate students, include estimated graduation date; postdoctoral scholars, include how many years post PhD you have been in a postdoctoral position, what year of your current postdoc you are in, and how long you anticipate being in this position. Scientific/Academic Merit: Provide a brief summary of your research topic area and how your research will impact the field of neurotoxicology (5-6 sentences). Past Experience: How many scientific meetings do you typically attend and/or present at each year? How many times have you attended the SOT annual meeting previously? What is the primary conference that you attend each year? Benefit of Attendance: How will attendance at the SOT annual meeting benefit your current research and career goals? (5-6 sentences) The completed application form for PART A should not exceed 1 page (this page limit does not include the abstract, proof of submission, or the trainee's CV which are also required for consideration and should be compiled into a single PDF file for submission)

PART B: To be filled out by the APPLICANT’S MENTOR. 

Content of support letter: Mentor name, institutional affiliation and email. Trainee name, position and length of time in this position. An evaluation of the trainee’s qualifications for the NTSS Toshio Narahashi Conference Award in terms of research quality, academic merit, and benefit to their attendance. Include a specific statement on why this trainee should receive this award and how they will benefit from attendance at the annual SOT meeting. How many members of your research team and what percentage of your team will be attending the annual SOT meeting? If awarded, do you commit to providing support for the trainee to ensure attendance at the annual SOT meeting?
