This NTSS Outstanding Neurotoxicologist Award honors a mid-career member of the Neurotoxicology Specialty Section (NTSS) for exceptional research, scientific contributions, and leadership in the field of neurotoxicology. The nominees must be an SOT and NTSS member within 15 years post-completion of their terminal degree. Selection criteria emphasize originality, innovation, and excellence, as demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications, impactful research, and contributions to mentorship, education, and neurotoxicology practice.
An NTSS Outstanding Award Committee will be appointed each year to review the nominations and determine if an award will be made. Nominations will be considered for up to 4 years. The Award will be made whenever a deserving individual is identified, but is not routinely given at any specified intervals.
The nominee must be a member of NTSS who has made significant scientific, regulatory, service, or mentoring contributions within 15 years of completion of their degree. Upon selection of the Awardee, the nominator writes a short bio which will be published in the Newsletter and/or posted on the website. The award will be presented at the NTSS reception at the SOT Annual Meeting, where the recipient will receive a plaque and asked to give a brief speech about their experience as a neurotoxicologist.
Nomination packages should not be longer the 6 pages (excluding the CV) and must include the following:
- Letter of nomination from a Full member of the Society of Toxicology
- Curriculum vitae of nominee (8 pages max)
- Seconding letter from a Full member of the Society of Toxicology
- At least one of the letters must be from a member of the NTSS
- Both letters should provide specific examples and documentation of the scientific contributions of the nominee; a publication list is not sufficient without analysis
