The SOT Mixtures Specialty Section strongly believes that the future of mixtures research is dependent on today’s students, postdocs, and young investigators. MixSS will host a virtual meeting where students, postdocs, and young investigators will have the opportunity to present projects related to the mixtures field and compete for a $500 award to support their travel to the 2024 SOT Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City. The travel award will be conferred in honor and remembrance of our dear colleague, Dr. Jane Ellen Simmons. Jane Ellen deeply cared about the protection of the environment, contributed immensely to the field of mixtures research and risk assessment, and supported young scientists during their career development. She also helped found the MixSS and served in the inaugural Presidential chain from 2007 to 2010. We are indebted to her service and legacy.
If you would like to be considered for this award, please submit the following by December 15, 2023:
- An original abstract
- A letter of recommendation from your supervisor
- Proof of eligibility for your current position (student, postdoc, or young investigator),
- For students and postdocs, confirmation of status in the recommendation letter.
- For young investigators, proof of the year you earned your highest degree (not to exceed 5 years from the time the highest degree (e.g., master, PhD) was earned).
Please also note that the abstracts/projects should be original, and applicants should not have received any monetary awards from the MixSS within the last 5 years for the same project/abstract. You will receive additional instructions about the virtual meeting upon acceptance of your abstract. Presentation slots are anticipated to be 10-15 minutes. The presentations and application package will be judged by an expert panel. The award will be presented at the SOT Annual Meeting.
