Description

Description:

The Leading Edge in Basic Science Award is presented to a scientist who, based on research, has made a recent (within the last five years), seminal scientific contribution/advance to understanding fundamental mechanisms of toxicity. The recipient should be a respected basic scientist whose research findings are likely to have a pervasive impact on the field of toxicology.

The award includes a plaque that is presented at the SOT Annual Meeting Awards Ceremony, a cash stipend, and an invitation to deliver the Leading Edge in Basic Science Award Lecture at the Annual Meeting at which the award is given.

Criteria for award:

  • May be a member or nonmember
  • Toxicologists as well as other scientists who may not identify themselves with the discipline of toxicology
  • Contribution within the last five years
  • Seminal, basic scientific contributions that have the potential to impact toxicology

Items needed in application:

  • Letter of nomination from Full member of the Society
  • Curriculum vitae of nominee (10 pages maximum)
  • Seconding letter from Full member of the Society
    • Both letters should name the specific contribution(s) for which the scientist is nominated and discuss the potential impact on toxicology. A publication list is not sufficient without discussion of the impact and how the nominee meets the award criteria.

Historical Listing of Award Recipients

Preference will be given to nominees who have not received another SOT Award—defined as those conferred by the SOT Awards Committee, excluding Supported and Student awards—within the last two years. Review the “Historical Archive of SOT Awardees” web page to confirm eligibility.
