This award will be presented to the graduate student trainees whose work in the field of Immunotoxicology is deserving of recognition. For full consideration:

The ITSS will present two (2) awards to recognize outstanding graduate student research in the field of immunotoxicology:

1) General Immunotoxicology Award – Honors excellence in any area of immunotoxicology research.

2) Research Institute for Fragrance Materials-sponsored Award – This one-time award specifically recognizes research that features New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) to advance exposure science, improves understanding of material composition, or contributes to risk assessment.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must be current or pending members of ITSS.
  • Awardees will be asked to give a 3-5’ presentation during the ITSS reception and are therefore required to attend the SOT Annual Meeting to receive the award.

Application Instructions:

  • Clearly label the submission files with your last name and the award you are applying for (Immunotox or RIFM award).

Required Documents:

1. Original abstract submitted to the SOT Annual Meeting.

2. Letter of support from your mentor, which should include:

  • A description of the student’s specific contributions to the project
  • The scientific impact and relevance of the work to immunotoxicology
  • A statement of support for the student’s application for the selected award

3. Extended abstract (maximum 1 page, 11pt font, ≥0.5-inch margins) including:

  • Detailed description of the project
  • A description of your role in the research
  • The significance of the project to the field of immunotoxicology
  • Up to two relevant figures may be included below the text (does not count towards the 1-page limit)

Review Criteria:

  • Quality and clarity of the extended abstract
  • Scientific rationale and significance of the research
    • For the RIFM award, emphasis should be placed on how the use of NAMs advances exposure science, improves understanding of material composition, or contributes to risk assessment

Award Details:

  • Final decisions will be made by the ITSS Awards Committee, chaired by the Senior Councilor.
  • Each recipient will receive a certificate and a $500 cash award.
