Description
The Inhalation and Respiratory Specialty Section (IRSS) of the Society of Toxicology (SOT) is now accepting applications for the Outstanding Postdoctoral Trainee Award. The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding contributions of postdoctoral trainees to the SOT Annual Meeting in the area of inhalation or respiratory toxicology. The applicant must be a current postdoctoral trainee. Submission of an abstract to the SOT Annual meeting is also required. Applications will be reviewed for scientific merit and service will be considered as criteria for this award. Note that recipients of an IRSS Outstanding Postdoctoral Trainee Award in the previous year disqualifies the applicant for the current year. Awardees will receive an engraved plaque and a cash award of $500 during the IRSS business meeting at the annual SOT meeting.
The application for the Outstanding Postdoctoral Trainee Award should consist of one PDF document that contains the following items:
- Cover letter from the applicant indicating his/her intent to apply for this award and interest in attending the Annual Meeting.
- Copy of pending abstract for platform or poster presentation for presentation at the SOT Annual Meeting.
- Current curriculum vitae for the postdoctoral trainee (maximum of 5 pages).
- A short statement (300 words or less) submitted by the postdoctoral trainee. This statement should include the rationale for the study, the significance of the results, and the trainee’s role in the work and how this relates to inhalation/respiratory toxicology and will influence their career goals.
- A letter of support from the advisor. This letter should highlight the applicant's contributions to the research being presented, the applicant’s overall scientific achievement and contribution to respiratory/inhalation toxicology, and a description of their leadership and service activities (examples include elected/appointed leadership positions, service within institution or community, teaching/mentoring activities). Additionally, the letter should provide details on the applicant's collaborative efforts and initiative.
Applicants for the Outstanding Postdoctoral Trainee Award must be members of the Inhalation and Respiratory Specialty Section.
Each sponsor can only nominate one postdoctoral trainee for this award category.
