DESCRIPTION
The Hispanic Organization of Toxicologists (HOT) has provided Travel Awards since 2005 to outstanding students and postdoctoral trainees of Hispanic/Latino origin working in the area of toxicology research. The HOT Travel Award consists of monetary funds to help with the associated costs of presenting their research and attending the SOT Annual Meeting and a recognition plaque for your laboratory or office space.
The HOT Travel Awards are provided by funds from the HOT Endowment. The HOT will give preference to first-time applicants with a high-quality research background. Previous winners may apply with the understanding that the likelihood of winning a second award may be linked to funding availability after all first-time applicant winners have been selected.
REQUIREMENTS
Candidates for the HOT Travel Awards must comply with the following requirements:
- Applicant must be an undergraduate, graduate or postdoctoral fellow.
- Applicant must be a HOT member of Hispanic/Latino origin in good standing at the time of submitting the application.
- Applicant must be the first author of an abstract submitted and accepted for the upcoming SOT Annual Meeting.
- If awarded, the awardee must attend the SOT Annual Meeting in-person and the HOT Awards Ceremony to obtain the financial award and plaque.
- If there is a last-minute situation where the awardee cannot attend the SOT Annual meeting in-person, the awardee must communicate it to the Chair of the HOT Awards Committee immediately. The HOT Awards Committee will review the amount of the monetary award.
- In case the awardee is attending the SOT Annual Meeting in-person but is unable to attend the HOT Award Ceremony, the awardee will need to communicate that to the Chair of the Awards Committee within at least 24 h of anticipation expressing the reason.
- After the SOT Annual Meeting, the awardee will be contacted to submit a short (~1 page) article describing their research. The awardee's article will be published in the "Trainee Section" of one of the upcoming issues of the HOT newsletter, Toxenlaces.
- The awardee must stay in communication with the Awards Committee during the processing of the award. If the awardee does not reply to the Awards Committee within the timeline, the award will be void, and the next runner-up will be considered.

- Copy of the SOT email informing the acceptance of the abstract and the day and time of the presentation.
